The Legal AI Vendor Market Is Bifurcating — What Mid-Sized Firms Should Know

Harvey's reported raise at $15.5B (on $350M ARR), Clio's $5B Series G, and Legora at $5.55B represent a top tier of legal AI platforms with runway and acquisition budgets that most mid-sized-firm-focused vendors cannot match. For IT directors and COOs at mid-sized firms, the bifurcation creates a vendor selection risk: enterprise platforms at the top of the market are adding capabilities faster than mid-tier competitors can track, while the acquisition wave (BigHand/Ayora, GC AI/Jetify, Aderant/HerculesAI, Legora/Wexler) is consolidating specialist functionality into larger suites. Legal tech raised $2.34B in Q1 2026 alone, on top of a record $6B in 2025 — capital is not the constraint, but concentration is. Mid-sized firms should track which vendors in their current or target stack have been acquired or are in active funding rounds, and build contract terms that protect against product changes or service degradation following acquisition.
