Cooley and Google design a human-reviewed redaction agent
Inside Practice · OCTOBER 13, 2026 · 1 MIN READ
On October 8, Google Cloud and Cooley announced that they are developing an agent to propose redactions of personal, technical and confidential information in complex litigation documents, with lawyers making every final redaction decision. The system remains in development, so the announcement establishes a design pattern rather than a measured productivity result. For mid-sized firms, redaction is a useful bounded workflow because accuracy can be sampled, exceptions can be routed and the human approval point is unambiguous. The implementation question is whether the saved review time exceeds setup, quality-control and security costs across the firm’s actual volume of document-intensive matters.
