The AI-Native Law Firm Monthly
Issue 03 — March 2026
The monthly deep dive on AI-native law firms, AI-native legal tech vendors, funding, leadership and go-to-market.
Editor's Note
March 2026 was the most consequential month the category has had. Two megarounds closed two weeks apart, the first dedicated directory of AI-native law firms launched, and an AI-native firm publicly walked away from the billable hour on the cover of Forbes.
On 10 March, Stockholm-based Legora closed a $550M Series D led by Accel at a $5.55B valuation, bringing cumulative funding to $816M (Artificial Lawyer). On 25 March, Harvey confirmed $200M at an $11B valuation, pushing lifetime funding past $1 billion (Platinum IDS; NewMarketPitch).
The more structurally interesting news came from the firm side: Crosby raised $60M and told Forbes it bills contract review by the page, not the hour (Forbes, 31 Mar).
Market Snapshot: AI-Native Law Firms
- The AI Firm Index launched 30 March, created by a co-founder of Lupl, opening with 27 listed AI-native or "NewMod" firms (aifirmindex.com; Matt Pollins).
- Crosby ditched hourly billing, billing per page, serving clients including Cursor (Forbes).
- General Legal disclosed $11.5M in seed and pre-seed just three months after launch, and estimates roughly 40% profit margins on AI-native commercial contract work (Artificial Lawyer, 31 Mar).
- Norm Law and the PE-backed cohort drew analysis on how private capital plus Arizona's ABS rules will strain the legacy partnership model (Bloomberg Law, 23 Mar).
- Raines LLP (Zack Shapiro) became the flagship Claude-native practice across two widely shared interviews (9 Mar; 23 Mar).
- Pushback: a viral mid-March critique argued model-generated redlines arrive without rationale — an explainability problem when work product reaches a counterparty (r/legaltech).
Vendor Watch
- Legora acquired Walter AI on 11 March — early evidence of legal AI consolidation (NewMarketPitch).
- Smokeball and Thomson Reuters brought CoCounsel Legal to small and mid-sized firms (25 Mar) (NewMarketPitch).
- Adoption data: a 2026 industry report published 7 March found 69% of legal professionals now using AI tools at work, more than double the prior year (report summary).

Leadership & GTM Moves
Crosby's per-page pricing is the GTM story of the quarter: it converts legal services into a unit-economics business, which is what growth investors underwrite (Forbes). Meanwhile KPMG, LegalZoom and PE-backed startups continue walking through the Arizona ABS door (Bloomberg Law).
