The AI-Native Law Firm Monthly
Issue 06 — June 2026
The monthly deep dive on AI-native law firms, AI-native legal tech vendors, funding, leadership and go-to-market.
Editor's Note
June exposed where the money in legal AI actually is — and it is not where BigLaw thinks.
Plaintiff-focused companies account for about 71% of disclosed capital in legal AI, with EvenUp at $370M raised and Eve at $164M (Crunchbase News, 5 Jun). Investors have concluded the plaintiff side produces clean, attributable ROI.
That matters for this category: most listed AI-native firms are corporate and transactional, while the largest pool of AI-derived legal value in 2026 is being captured by platforms serving plaintiff firms. Meanwhile the index kept growing — by late June it tracked just over 50 AI-native law firms globally, 31 of them in the US (General Legal).
Market Snapshot: AI-Native Law Firms
- 50+ firms tracked by late June, 31 US-based — up from 27 at the March launch (General Legal; Spellbook).
- Manifest, Crosby and General Legal cited as the reference examples of firms built around AI from the ground up (Spellbook, 20 Jun).
- Traditional firms take note: guidance circulated on how incumbents should respond to AI-native and venture-backed competitors (Dorna Moini, 18 Jun).
- Kirkland & Ellis and Palantir launched a proprietary enterprise platform for private equity fundraising built on Palantir AIP plus Kirkland's own institutional knowledge and tradecraft — the strongest signal yet that elite firms will build rather than buy (Inside Legal AI).
Vendor Watch
- Wordsmith raised $70M on 3 June to help in-house teams keep more work internal (NewMarketPitch).
- Eve launched EveOS, an AI-native operating system for plaintiff firms spanning Eve Atlas, Eve Analyst, Communication Agents and Research (Inside Legal AI).
- Sandstone raised $30M Series A led by Lightspeed to build an operating layer for AI-native in-house legal departments (Inside Legal AI).
- Valuation league table (June): Harvey $11B, Legora $5.6B, Clio $5B, Filevine ~$3B, EvenUp $2B+, Eve $1B+ (AI Lawyer Pro).
Funding & Investment
| Item | Detail | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Plaintiff-side share | ~71% of disclosed legal AI capital | Crunchbase |
| EvenUp / Eve | $370M / $164M raised | Crunchbase |
| Wordsmith | $70M Series B, 3 Jun | NewMarketPitch |
| Sandstone | $30M Series A (Lightspeed) | Inside Legal AI |
Leadership & GTM Moves
Three distinct GTM motions are now visible: enterprise vendors selling seats to hourly-billing firms, plaintiff-side vendors selling case throughput, and AI-native firms selling fixed or per-unit outcomes (Crunchbase; Spellbook). Managed-services players joined in, with LOD and Consilio partnering with Wordsmith to package AI into in-house support (Inside Legal AI).
Mainstream Firms Going AI-Native
Adoption is real but architecturally conservative outside a handful of leaders. Kirkland's Palantir build is the exception that proves the rule; most firms are standardising on one or two platforms while structural innovation in pricing and ownership happens outside the AmLaw 100 (Inside Legal AI; Dorna Moini).
