ACC lawsuit puts training-data provenance into legal-AI procurement

On September 10, Reuters reported that the Association of Corporate Counsel sued L Suite in Delaware federal court, alleging that L Suite used an ACC report and trademarks to train and promote its Lloyd chatbot without permission. ACC, which represents more than 48,000 in-house lawyers, seeks damages and injunctive relief; L Suite had not responded to Reuters by publication, and the allegations have not been adjudicated. For legal departments buying AI tools, the dispute makes training-data provenance, licensed-content representations and infringement allocation practical procurement questions rather than abstract model issues. Law firms should expect clients to ask for the same assurances when firm-built tools generate client-facing work.
