Latham puts Nvidia servers behind an employee-only AI environment

On September 11, Bloomberg Law reported that Latham & Watkins had activated multiple Nvidia H200 GPUs in a third-party data center accessible only to firm employees and was fine-tuning open-weight models. The firm declined to disclose the cost and said it was considering newer Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems. For law firms and legal departments, the move shows that AI strategy can extend beyond application procurement into compute ownership, model operations and security architecture. Most organizations will not reproduce Latham’s investment, but they still need a deliberate choice among private infrastructure, managed services and public models, including the staffing, audit and exit costs of each option.
