UK, US and Canada align on ten lifecycle principles for medical AI

On October 5, 2026, the UK government updated its good-machine-learning-practice guidance, presenting ten principles jointly identified by the UK MHRA, US FDA and Health Canada for AI-enabled medical devices. The principles emphasize multidisciplinary expertise, representative data, human-AI team performance, clinically relevant testing, transparency and monitoring across the total product lifecycle. This is convergence through regulatory practice rather than a single harmonized statute, and it offers legal teams a common control vocabulary for cross-border development and procurement. The remaining divergence lies in how each jurisdiction converts those principles into binding submissions, surveillance duties and enforcement.
