On October 8, Canadian Lawyer reported DISCO-sponsored survey results from 104 legal professionals and 33 interviews, including that 64% of law-firm respondents felt client pressure to adopt AI, up from 39% a year earlier, while respondents described pricing predictability as a larger constraint. The same vendor-backed study reported formal AI policies at 94% of participating organizations, routine-process integration at 58% and agentic-AI use at 62%; these figures describe the sample and should not be treated as market-wide prevalence. For firms and legal departments, the useful operating signal is the combination of rising demand and weak cost visibility, which makes usage metering, matter budgets and outcome baselines procurement requirements. The next pressure point is commercial: clients will expect firms to explain when consumption pricing is absorbed, passed through or converted into a fixed-fee outcome.
