Crunchbase: Legal Tech Pulls $2.2B in 2026, 12 Rounds at $50M+

Crunchbase's August sector snapshot confirmed that legal tech startups have raised more than $2.2 billion through August 2026, down only modestly from a record $4.6 billion in 2025 and with at least 12 rounds of $50 million or more closed this year. Eight of the 12 largest rounds were Series A or B, not late-stage growth rounds — a sign that the category is still in formation with major structural bets being made at the building stage rather than the scaling stage. More than 50 seed-stage rounds of $1 million or more have also closed in 2026, showing the pipeline remains active at the earliest stage. For legal engineering professionals and operators, the funding map is increasingly a hiring and partnership map: where capital concentrates, so do engineering talent, product teams, and integration opportunities.
