Cooley creates a separate operating unit for AI delivery

On October 19, 2026, Business Insider reported that Cooley had organized its AI work in a wholly owned subsidiary, Cooley AI, with engineers working alongside lawyers on client-facing products. The firm described projects including a contract-review tool developed with Legora for a Y Combinator client, IPO-document work with OpenAI and a redaction agent built with Google, while also offering hourly, flat and outcome-based pricing. The subsidiary structure gives the firm a way to recruit technical talent, develop reusable assets and measure product economics outside conventional practice-group accounting. The test for this model is whether reusable systems produce repeatable client value without separating engineering decisions from the lawyers who remain accountable for the work.
