Meta researcher Ethem Coban launches legal-model startup

On October 22, 2026, Business Insider reported that Meta Superintelligence Labs researcher Ethem Coban had left the company earlier in October to launch a legal-technology startup and was in talks to raise $6 million at a $25 million valuation. According to a person familiar with the talks, the company intends to help law firms and legal teams build and customize models around their proprietary expertise and data; the financing terms were preliminary and could change. The proposition points toward a service model in which a legal organization’s differentiated asset is not the base model but the controlled combination of matter data, expert methods and evaluation criteria. Innovators should watch whether the company sells software, implementation capacity or an ongoing managed-model service, because those choices will determine margins, professional-responsibility boundaries and buyer lock-in.
