Legaltech AI Adoption Survey: 92% of Lawyers Use AI, 31% Say Their Firm Is Prepared for the Infosec Risk

A 2026 Future Ready Lawyer survey (August 10) found that 92% of lawyers now use at least one AI tool, while only 31% say their organization is "very" prepared for the information security risks that come with it. The gap between adoption and governance readiness is the defining KM operating condition for the current phase of legal AI deployment: the tools are in use, but the knowledge infrastructure, access controls, metadata standards, and audit procedures that make that use defensible are not yet in place at most firms. For KM directors, the 61-percentage-point gap between adoption and governance preparedness is both a risk framing for leadership conversations and a program justification — firms that close the gap through structured KM investment will be better positioned for the client scrutiny and bar enforcement that is already arriving.
