NetDocuments Publishes Legal Context Engineering Benchmark — Measures How Context Quality Affects AI Cost and Accuracy

NetDocuments published its Legal Context Engineering Benchmark (LCEB) report on August 18, measuring how structured legal context affects both the quality and cost of AI answers — a first of its kind in the legal DMS market. The benchmark methodology evaluates AI outputs across different levels of context structuring (unstructured document dump vs. matter-structured context graph) on dimensions of accuracy, hallucination rate, and token consumption. For KM teams that have invested in metadata, taxonomy, and matter structure, this report provides the first empirical framework for quantifying the return on that investment in AI terms — not just retrieval terms. The implication for platform procurement: context engineering capability, not model capability, is the differentiating variable in AI-enabled DMS platforms.
