LegalTech Insider: "Context Is King — But Transformation Is Still the Hard Part"

Legal IT Insider's post-ILTACON analysis (September 2) offered a useful corrective to the platform optimism on the exhibition floor: across senior leader conversations with iManage, NetDocuments, LexisNexis, Intapp, Harvey, and Aderant, transformation consistently proved harder to execute than the product messaging implied. The piece identified a shared vocabulary emerging among platform leaders — context engineering, data quality, governance, agent orchestration, and ROI — but noted that operational reality at most firms lags the platform capability curve. NetDocuments CEO Josh Baxter was quoted explaining the context graph's value with a human analogy: "Context matters, otherwise it's like instructing an associate, then that associate goes away and you get someone who knows nothing." For KM directors, the analysis reinforces a structural point: platform capability is advancing faster than the knowledge infrastructure most firms have in place to support it, and the gap between what vendors can deliver and what firms can absorb is a KM problem, not a technology problem.
