Latham brings model infrastructure and knowledge control in-house

On September 11, Legal IT Insider reported that Latham & Watkins had bought Nvidia GPU servers and begun customizing open-weight AI models, citing a Financial Times report published the previous day. The firm said keeping highly sensitive client information inside its own systems and gaining flexibility over consumption costs were important drivers. For KM leaders, this shifts architecture decisions beyond application selection into responsibility for model hosting, retrieval boundaries, source curation and long-term operating capacity. Few firms can replicate Latham’s scale, but more will need an explicit policy for which knowledge workloads stay internal, which use managed services and how answers can move safely between them.
