Legora builds a legal corpus and citation map to challenge research incumbents

On September 14, Business Insider reported that Legora has hired former lawyers to collect and map case law and statutes as it builds a research corpus intended to compete with LexisNexis and Westlaw. Legora said it has licensing agreements with “tens” of publishers, including Wolters Kluwer, with roughly a dozen more pending, and that it does not license content from the two incumbent research services. For KM teams, the development makes source provenance, treatment history and jurisdictional completeness central evaluation criteria for AI research rather than back-office content questions. An attractive interface cannot substitute for a trusted corpus, so pilots should test coverage, citator behavior and unavailable-authority handling before firms change core subscriptions.
