Harvey AIUC-1 Certification: First Legal AI Company Through an Autonomous Agent Security Audit

Harvey became the first legal AI company certified against the AIUC-1 standard — the AI agent security, safety, and reliability framework — on August 4. Auditor Schellman ran more than 3,000 tests across data privacy, security, safety, reliability, accountability, and societal impact, reporting zero critical failures. The certification is designed to give enterprise buyers (and their CISOs) a structured, third-party-verified basis for approving legal AI tools, and Harvey's timing is deliberate: the certification coincided with EU AI Act Article 50 enforcement going live and came a week before the August 10 release of Command Center's peer benchmarking and audit log capabilities. For legal tech operators, the AIUC-1 certification represents a new bar in enterprise procurement — not a requirement yet, but the kind of third-party validation that governance committees and procurement teams will increasingly use to structure their risk assessments.
