In-House AI Use at 92% but Only 2% Have Reached Full Workflow Integration — LegalOn Survey

A LegalOn survey published August 18 found that while 92% of in-house legal teams now use AI, 54.9% remain in the experimentation phase — exploring prompts without shared workflows or standards — and just 2% have reached full workflow support across intake, triage, contract work, and post-signature insight. The procurement implication is significant: enterprise legal AI vendors are selling into a market where nearly all buyers have a tool but very few have a process. That gap — between license and embedded workflow — is where implementation partners, change management specialists, and vendors with strong onboarding infrastructure have the most defensible position. It also explains why procurement decisions are taking longer: buyers who have been burned by pilot sprawl are now demanding evidence of workflow integration before they authorize spend.
