Legora builds a legal corpus to challenge research incumbents

On September 14, Business Insider reported that Legora has hired former lawyers to collect and map case law and statutes as it builds a research corpus intended to compete with LexisNexis and Westlaw. Legora said it has licensing agreements with “tens” of publishers, including Wolters Kluwer, with roughly a dozen more pending, and that it does not license LexisNexis or Westlaw content. The strategic move puts authoritative source acquisition, citation relationships and editorial quality control at the center of product defensibility as foundation models become more interchangeable. Buyers should test coverage and citator behavior jurisdiction by jurisdiction, because an integrated interface is not equivalent to a complete or institutionally trusted corpus.
