Kirkland & Ellis and Palantir Technologies announced a proprietary enterprise platform designed to transform private equity fundraising — the first operational product from Kirkland's $500 million multi-year AI investment program. Built on Palantir's Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP), the fund formation engine centralizes institutional knowledge across Kirkland's 1,000-attorney Investment Funds Group, covering the full PE fundraising lifecycle: fund documentation, investor onboarding, side letter drafting, obligation tracking, and closing compliance. Kirkland supported nearly $500 billion in capital raised or targeted in 2025, making the addressable workflow consequential.

The architecture is model-agnostic by design, which protects the firm from model-level obsolescence as the underlying AI landscape evolves. More importantly, Kirkland is pursuing a proprietary knowledge moat: unlike off-the-shelf legal AI tools available to all competitors, this platform encodes Kirkland-specific institutional knowledge, workflows, and judgment — and is unavailable to any other firm. For legal tech vendors operating in the fund formation or PE due diligence segments, this signals that the highest-value clients are beginning to build their own infrastructure rather than buy it. The precedent matters: if the world's highest-revenue law firm builds proprietary, the next tier will follow.
