LawCare 2026: Life in the Law Recommendations Focus on Workload and Leadership

LawCare's updated Life in the Law research (August 2026) translates its 2021 foundational study into a 2026 recommendations package with five operational priorities: actively managing workloads, prioritizing people management over technical skill in supervisor selection, embedding hybrid and flexible working as a structural norm rather than a benefit, formally evaluating wellbeing programs for outcome evidence, and reforming legal education to build wellbeing literacy before lawyers enter practice. LawCare is now engaging in a programme to develop resources and training specifically for leaders — a recognition that the gap between wellbeing aspiration and wellbeing practice is primarily a leadership capability problem rather than a resource problem. Firms looking for a credible external framework to anchor their 2026-2027 wellbeing strategy should review the LawCare recommendations as a baseline.
