Legalsuper and Mental Health First Aid International Expand Evidence-Based Training Access

Australian legal superannuation fund Legalsuper has partnered with Mental Health First Aid International to expand access to evidence-based mental health training and resources for the Australian legal profession. The partnership makes structured MHFA training — validated through multiple randomized controlled trials for its effectiveness in early identification and referral — available through the superannuation relationship rather than the employer relationship, effectively decoupling access to wellbeing support from firm-level investment decisions. For the significant proportion of Australian lawyers working in small or sole-practice settings without access to firm-funded wellbeing programs, the Legalsuper route may represent the most accessible pathway to structured mental health training. The model is worth watching as a potential template for wellbeing infrastructure delivery through professional associations and sector funds rather than individual firms.
