London BigLaw Partners on Stress: "The Pressure Has Increased Further"

Twelve months after a UK coroner's verdict reignited the legal industry's reckoning with toxic work culture, Law.com's international edition surveyed twelve of London's senior BigLaw partners on the state of mental health at the top of the profession. The most candid finding: legal leaders believe pressure has not eased since the verdict — it has increased. Several partners described a disconnect between firm-level wellbeing communications and the lived experience of associates, with one partner summarizing the gap as follows: "We talk more about it and do less about it than we should." The survey's implicit takeaway is that the cultural moment created by the coroner's verdict has been absorbed into rhetoric rather than translated into structural reform, and that London's legal market remains structurally hostile to the wellbeing outcomes firms publicly endorse.
