WSBA 2026 Well-Being Task Force: Five Recommendations Including Mandatory CLE

The Washington State Bar Association's 2026 Member Well-Being Task Force has issued its final report with five core recommendations: normalizing help-seeking behavior within firm culture, expanding wellbeing education through mandatory CLE requirements, implementing structural and policy reforms including reasonable workload standards, adopting a program modeled on Colorado's Well-Being Pledge, and strengthening peer support infrastructure. The mandatory CLE recommendation is the most operationally significant — if adopted, it would make Washington one of the first jurisdictions to formally embed wellbeing competency into continuing professional development obligations. The Colorado Well-Being Pledge model being referenced has attracted over 140 law firm signatories and has been credited with producing measurable reductions in substance use and crisis calls among participating firms.
