The Centre for Legal Leadership hosted a session in late June 2026 with Mindful Business Charter CEO Richard Martin and RPC Associate Director Rachel Pears, translating the Charter's four-pillar framework — Openness & Respect, Smart Meetings & Communications, Respecting Rest Periods, and Mindful Delegation — for in-house legal departments. Martin, a former employment law partner who experienced a breakdown in 2011 requiring a month of hospitalisation, framed the session around a distinction that is increasingly central to reform conversations: stress in law comes not simply from workload volume but from "the way we work and interact — the unconscious, unnecessary and often unnoticed pressures we place on one another." The event also surfaced the MBC's advocacy ambition: Martin is pushing for Health and Safety at Work Act regulations covering psychological risk on the model of regulations for physical hazards.
